Gravel is one of nature’s most diverse materials, and an essential component of construction and landscaping. Unfortunately, when it comes to gravel and aggregate rocks, many people make the mistake of thinking that they are all the same. While it is true that you can use many grades of gravel interchangeably, some grades are a better fit for certain types of projects.
The good news is that when you need to select the perfect gravel products, our team at Arkansas Aggregates is in your corner! Our rock products are locally mined from an outcropping of Nepheline Syenite, a rock product with visible characteristics of granite that is the primary rock product used in the southeast. Our bestselling grades of fill gravel are 57 & 67 stone, which are great all-purpose products. 57 gravel is made of stones that are approximately ¾” to 1” in size, and 67 gravel is approximately one-half inch. We can always custom grind crushed stone to your specifications. Here are just a few of the ways that you can use our gravel:
Erosion control-If you live on a hillside or near a shoreline, you already know what a mess that a major rainfall can cause for your decks and patios, and it can also ruin your landscaping. But a bed of gravel at the base of your flowerbeds can facilitate drainage, hold soil in place, and make it harder for weeds to gain a foothold. 57 & 67 stone is also perfect for French Drains!
Concrete mix and Pavement base-Before you pour concrete or asphalt, fill gravel is a great way to shore up the ground so that it will be level enough for smooth paving On a long-term basis, this is an important way to lower long-term maintenance costs due to cracks formed by settling, and extreme weather.
Driveways and walkways-If you live in a rural area and maintain a large property, it might not be necessary or cost-effective to pave every surface that people drive on, and gravel controls erosion and weeds. And a few gravel walkways can minimize the human impact of a high traffic area, and create a nice rustic touch for your garden.
